School of Economics (SE) of Hunan Agricultural University originated from the Department of Agricultural Economics of Hunan Keqiang College in 1947 and was officially established in January 2006. SE is a teaching and research-oriented school that integrates economics, management and other disciplines, which bears a multi-level of talent training system with post-doctoral doctoral, master, and undergraduate programs.

SE has 84 faculty and staff members, including 14 professors, 20 associate professors, 22 PhD supervisors and 38 master’s supervisors, 78.5% of full-time teachers are Ph.D. holders. SE has1 recipient of the Special Allowances of the State Council of China,2 candidates of the New Century Excellent Talents Project of MOE and1member of Professional Teaching Steering Committee of MOE for Agriculture Forestry Economic Management,1 first-level candidate and2second-level candidates of Hunan 121 Talents Project,4discipline leaders of colleges and universities in Hunan Province and2 young backbone teachers of Hunan Province. In terms of international cooperation, SE has a “3+1+1” undergraduate program and a graduate cooperation program with George Fox University, as well as an undergraduate program in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

SE has 3 research platforms:the Rural Development Research Institute (RDRI) of HUNAU, Research Base of “Three Rural Issues” (RBTRI) of Hunan Province and the Rural Revitalization Strategy Research Institute (RRSRI) of Hunan Province

RDRI of HUNAU

RDRI of HUNAU,an academic institution specializing in rural development issues，was established in November 2004. 32membersofRDRI have undertakenover 180 projects of national, provincial and ministerial projects,  won6 philosophies and social science awards of Hunan Province, published more than 400 academic papers, and over 30 monographs, providing a powerful decision-making reference for governments to make agricultural and rural development strategies and related policies.

RBTRI of Hunan Province

RBTRI of Hunan Province is an academic research institution established in October 2004 that studies the issues of “agriculture, farmers and rural areas”. RBTRI has 38 full-time senior researchers. The researchers have undertaken over 134 on-going research projects, including 77 provincial and ministerial projects, won 5 provincial and ministerial awards, and published 532 academic papers and 18 academic monographs and textbooks. In addition, 21 RBTRI research reports andproposals tolocal governments, enterprises and institutions have providedsupport for the decision-making progress regarding economic and social development of rural areas in Hunan Province.

RRSRI of Hunan Province

RRSRI of Hunan Province is a research platform that integrates scientific research, social services andtalent development, and was established on January 3, 2018. RRSRI conducts research in six major areas: “Three Rural” policies;Rural land reform involving theseparation of land rights (the separation of land ownership rights, contract rights and land management rights);Targeted poverty alleviation andoverall rural prosperity; “Three Rural” technologyworkforceand agricultural services;Urban-rural integration development;andbeautiful countryside initiative and countryside complexes.
