On April 20, 2018, our international students went to the Tongguan Kiln site, one of the important sites of Huxiang Culture in Wangcheng District, Changsha, Hunan Province, to study and experience the ancient charm of the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Silk Road, originating from Tongguan, is located in the Tongguan Kiln Site of Tongguan Town, Wangcheng District in Changsha City. It is the birthplace of Chinese Tang Dynasty colored porcelain. Tongguan Kiln has witnessed the Silk Road of the Hunan Province and is an important site for studying the history of Sino-foreign trade and cultural exchange. It is not only a treasure of science, culture and arts, but also an important resource for studying Hunan culture. With the development of society, the advancement of science, and the improvement of the quality of the people, the historical, scientific, cultural, and artistic values of Tongguan Kiln have become increasingly eye-catching.

To enable international students to better understand the essence of Huxiang culture and understand the great significance of China's “Belt and Road” initiative, HUNAU arranged this cultural tour of the Tongguan Kiln. International students walked into the Tongguan Kiln Ruins Museum to fell the long history, full- preserved kiln slope, faintly visible broken porcelain, exquisite and precious exhibits, and realistic models of the scene. They were attracted by all these, and some of them thumbed up and shouted “cool”. Everyone marvels at the exquisite pottery making skills, the long history and culture, and the high-tech presentation techniques. In the antique Tongguan Street, international students are curious about various ceramic products, and bought a lot of portable small items as gifts to relatives and friends after returning home.

Through this trip, the international students of HUNAU have further understanding of the connotation of Hunan culture, and the story of Hunan and the story of HUNAU.

In summer, the sun was shining, and the ancient city of Changsha has a different charm. On May 27, 2017, our students went to the site of Tongguan Kiln, one of the important sites of Huxiang Culture.

Located in Wangcheng District, Changsha City, The Tongguan Kiln Site in Tongguan Town, connected to the famous Tongguan porcelain city in the north, the rolling hills in the east, facing the Xiangjiang River, is the birthplace of China’ Tang Dynasty porcelain. The Tongguan Kiln is an important testimony of the Silk Road of the province. In the first half of the 9th century, the ship “Black Stone” that sank in Indonesia carried a large number of Chinese ceramic vessels. Nearly 85% of the pottery was produced in Changsha Tongguan Kiln.

In order to enable international students to better understand the essence of Huxiang culture and understand the great significance of China's “Belt and Road” initiative, HUNAU arranged this cultural journey. At the Tongguan Kiln Museum, international students had a strong interest in Chinese ceramic art and admire the wisdom of the ancient Chinese. In the antique Tongguan Street, international students were curious about all kinds of ceramic products, and bought a lot of portable small items as gifts to relatives and friends after returning home. Some students were also interested in home-made ceramics in handicraft workshops and experienced the charm of Chinese ceramics craftsmanship.
