Zhou graduated with a bachelor's degree of Management from the School of Economics and Business Administration at Hunan Agricultural University in July 2000. In July 2003, he completed his master's degree in management at the same university; In June 2006, he graduated with a doctor's degree in economics from the school of economics at Jinan University. Since July 2006, he has been teaching in the School of Economics in Hunan Agricultural University.
