School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
General Information
The history of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Hunan Agricultural University can be traced back to the year of 1958 when the specialty of agricultural mechanization was established. The Agricultural Mechanization Department was established in 1961 and renamed the Agricultural Engineering Department due to the development of the discipline. The College of Engineering and Technology was established in 1994 and was renamed the College of Engineering in December 2005. In September 2019, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established.
The School boasts 61 faculty members, of whom 45 are full-time teachers (9 professors and 14 associate professors),44 have master or doctor degree, and more than 20 are members, committee members, as well as editorial board members of various societies.
Discipline and Degree
The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering developed from a single undergraduate level in the past to a variety of educational levels, such as undergraduate, master, doctor, etc. With agricultural engineering as the core, it has formed a disciplinary cluster, integrating mechanical engineering, automation, and vehicle engineering. It boasts a post-doctoral scientific research mobile station for agricultural engineering, and doctor and master degrees of first-level disciplines of agricultural engineering. There is one authorized master degree of agriculture (agricultural engineering and information technology). There are 5 undergraduate specialties including agricultural mechanization and automation, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, mechanical and electronic engineering, vehicle engineering and automotive service engineering.

Scientific Research and Social Service
Scientific Research
Scientific research on agricultural mechanization engineering integrates scientific technology of all kinds such as machinery, information, biology and automation. Focused on the pre-production, mid-production and post-production links of agriculture in southern China, especially in the hilly areas of Hunan Province, the processing of agricultural products with Hunan characteristics and the comprehensive utilization of agricultural resources, the major research has been carried out in agricultural mechanization and automated production technologies, as well as production planning and management, which is unique not only in the fields of application but also in its interdisciplinary and comprehensive characteristics. Two research directions are as follows: Agricultural Machinery Innovation Design and Theory, and Mechanized Agriculture.
Main Platforms and Bases
1. Mechanization Innovation Platform of the National 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center.
2. Provincial Scientific Research Platforms: Hunan Key Laboratory of Intelligent Agricultural Machinery Equipment, Hunan Modern Agricultural Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center, Hunan Modern Food Engineering Technology and Equipment Innovation Center.
3.Provincial Experimental Teaching Platforms for Undergraduates: Demonstration and Experimental Center for Basic Courses of Hunan Provincial Universities (Basic Experimental Teaching Center of Machinery) and Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center of Hunan Province (South Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center of Agricultural Mechanization ).
4.University-level Teaching Practice Bases: Agricultural Engineering Training Center, Vehicle Engineering Training Center, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, and Metalworking Practice Factory.
Social Service
Relying on the existing teaching and research platform, the school has successively established 16 off-campus bases for the transformation and promotion of scientific and technological achievements, such as Modern Agricultural Equipment and Hunan Longzhou. It has built one innovation team at Hunan provincial level in cooperation with Hunan Nongyou Machinery Group and formed a national professional and technical personnel base for agricultural machinery in 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare. It has made significant achievements in the research and development of key technologies and equipment for the whole process of mechanized production of rice and rape. It has transformed more than 30 scientific research achievements into actual use, successfully promoted over 20 kinds of new machines and tools, and trained over 3,000 technicians in the fields of agriculture and agricultural machinery promotion. Relying on the Comprehensive Service Platform of the National-level Rural Agricultural Information Demonstration Province, it has served millions of farmers and thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises. More than 50% of the discipline team members are science and technology correspondents of Hunan Province or scientific and technological talents of "Three Areas" (poverty-stricken areas, border ethnic areas, and old revolutionary base areas)), who have facilitated the popularization and application of modern agricultural engineering technology in Hunan Province. At the same time, it has further consolidated the position and role of agricultural engineering in serving the local economic construction by integrating superior disciplines of the university.
