3. Water resources conversion and scientific regulation at watershed scale in arid areas under changing environment；

4. Mechanism of water saving and salt suppression in agriculture and cooperative regulation of irrigation and drainage in arid inland areas

Resume

Obtained a bachelor's degree in farmland water conservancy from the former Wuhan College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in 1982, obtained his master's degree and a doctoral degree in agricultural soil and water engineering from the former Northwest Agricultural University respectively in 1985 and 1990.    

Did a cooperative research at the Institute of Water, Soil and Environmental Sciences of Agricultural Research Organization (ARO) in Israeli from August to November in 1998; a cooperative research at the Soil and Water Research Institute of CSIRO and at the Victoria Institute of Sustainable Irrigation Agriculture in Australia from October 1999 to May, 2000; a Cooperative research in the Department of Biology, Hong Kong Baptist University from July to September in 1996, from January to March in 2002 and from January to March in 2003 respectively. Joined the faculty of the Northwest Agricultural University in July 1985, was promoted to professor in September 1993, and was approved as a doctoral supervisor in 1995, deputy director of the Academic Committee of Northwest Agricultural University, dean of the College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering (The Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower) of Northwest A&F University, director of the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering in dryland of the Ministry of Education, director of Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering / Agricultural Water-saving Key Opening Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, and deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Agriculture on the Loess Plateau. Joined the faculty of China Agricultural University in July 2002 and worked to the present, professor of the School of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering, doctoral supervisor, director of the Standing Committee of the Agricultural Science Department of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, deputy director of the Academic Committee of the China Agricultural University, director of the editorial committee of Journal of China Agricultural University, director of the China Agricultural Water Research Center, stationmaster of Wuwei scientific observation experimental station of the Ministry of Agriculture for efficient water use of crops. A member of “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994, a special professor of the "Yangtze River Scholars Award Scheme" of the Ministry of Education in 2001, a member of the Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education in 2006, an honorary doctorate in science from Lancaster University in UK in 2010, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011, a member of the Outstanding Innovation Team of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2013.

Scientific Awards

1 first-place prize, 3 second-place prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 1 second-place prize of the State Natural Science Award, 1 second-place prize of the State Excellent Teaching Achievement Award, 1 third-place prize of the State Excellent Science and Technology Works, 7 first-place prizes and 4 second-place prizes of ministerial or provincial science and technology awards. the ICID International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Agricultural Water-saving Technological Innovation in 2006 (the only winner in the world that year). 12 patents and 3 copyrights of computer software authorized.

Publications

More than 400 academic articles published in China’s or foreign journals, including 160 SCI-included articles, 150 EI-included articles and 4200 SCI citations, selected into the Elsevier's "list of highly cited scholars in China in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017" for four consecutive years. Authored or co-authored 12 scientific and technological monographs or textbooks, of which Water Resources Conversion Law and Water-saving Regulation Model in Northwest Arid Area of China: a Case Study of Shiyang River Basin, Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering, Water-saving Agriculture in China, Water Requirement and Water Consumption Management of Major Crops in North China were supported by the National Science and Technology Academic Publishing Fund; and Farmland Water Cycle Process and Agricultural Efficient Water Use Mechanism in Haihe River Basin was funded by the National Publishing Fund; Water Transport Theory of Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum and Its Application, and Agricultural Water Saving and Sustainable Utilization of Water Resources in Northwest China were respectively funded by the First Excellent Water Conservancy Science and Technology Monograph Publishing Fund of the Ministry of Water Resources in 1992 and the First China Agricultural Science and Education Publishing Fund in 1996; Water Resources Conversion Law and Water-saving Regulation Model in Northwest Arid Area of China: a Case Study of Shiyang River Basin was awarded the National "Three One Hundred" original book publishing project by the State Press and Publishing Administration in 2011.

Teaching Achievements

72 full-time master candidate students, and 75 doctoral candidate students, 4 engineering master candidate students, 6 post-doctoral students and 3 visiting scholars. The doctoral candidate students have won 2 pieces of the National 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, 1 nomination award and 3 provincial excellent doctoral dissertation awards.
