Originated from the Department of Plant Diseases and Insect of Hunan University in 1950, School of Plant Protection (SPP) has become a comprehensive and interdisciplinary college offering bachelor, master and doctoral programs. |
SPP has 69 faculty and staff members, including 15 professors, 1 professor entitled to Special Allowance from the State Council of PRC, 1 member of the Talents of the New Century of the Ministry of Education of China, 2 special professor of “Furong Scholars” Program in Hunan Province, 1 lecture professor, 3 members of the Hunan 121 Talent Project, 3 discipline leaders in Hunan Province, 1 special professor of the “One Hundred Expert Program”, and 7 special professors of “Shennong Scholars” Program. SPP has 35 doctoral supervisors (including 10 part-time supervisors and 1 academician belonging to both academies), 56 academic master supervisors (including 13 part-time supervisors), and 74 professional degree supervisors (including 30 part-time supervisors). |
The value of teaching and research equipment is more than 60 million Yuan. Teaching and research room covers an area of 12,000 square meters. SPP is one of the main supporting units of the three national scientific research and teaching platforms for the National Engineering Research Center for Utilization of Plant Functional Components. In addition, SPP has 4 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, 2 provincial off-campus practice bases for postgraduates and more than 20 off-campus teaching practice bases for undergraduates. |
SPP has academic cooperation with more than 10 regions and countries, such as the USA, UK, Canada, Japan, and Thailand, through the ways of sending some outstanding undergraduates to study abroad and welcoming international exchange students. SPP currently has over 1,100 undergraduate students and nearly 400 master's and doctoral students. |
Discipline and Degree |
Plant Pathology is the key discipline in Hunan Province, and Plant Protection is the dominant discipline in Hunan Agricultural University and the key discipline in the 12th Five-Year Plan of Hunan Province. In 2016, Plant Pathology is graded as B - discipline in the fourth round of discipline assessment in China, and in 2018 it was rated as a first-class provincial cultivation discipline in Hunan Province. |
