School of Sports
General Information |
School of Sports (SS) was established in September 2019,originating from the combination of the Department of Physical Education and Aesthetic Education, the School of Horticultural Landscape and the Art Design from the School of Humanities. SS consists of the Department of Public Physical Education, the Department of Guidance and Management of Social Sports, the Dance Department, the Department of Physical Education, the Practical Teaching Management Center, and the Sports Science Research Institute. SS has 85 faculty and staff members, including 68 full-time teachers, among them are seven professors and 26 associate professors, 14 master's supervisors, 3 PhDs, 5 PhD candidates and 62 postgraduates. It has 2 national social sports coaches, 1 international referee, 3 national referees and 16 first-class national referees. SS has 4 recipients of the Youth Backbone Teachers in Provincial Colleges and Universities of Hunan Province, and 2 backbone teachers in HUNAU. The enrollment of SS is 617 full-time undergraduate students and 113 master's students. |
From 2009 to 2022, the School of Sports has undertaken a total of 7 research projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, 4 projects funded by the Ministry of Education, 2 projects funded by the General Administration of Sport of China, 30 provincial research projects, and 12 provincial educational reform projects. Over the past three years, faculty members of the School have successfully applied for 40 research projects, including 2 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, 2 projects funded by Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, 2 sub-projects of the National Key Research and Development Program, 6 projects funded by provincial social science fund, 2 projects funded by provincial natural science fund, 5 provincial educational reform projects, 2 projects from the Excellent Youth Research Program of the Provincial Education Department, with 168 published papers and 7 published monographs, and serving as chief editors or contributors for 31 textbooks. In the past three years, faculty members of the School of Sports have won a total of 14 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 2 third prizes in various provincial teaching competitions and teaching skills competitions, and 4 first prizes in teaching competitions at the university level. The students has won a total of 52 gold, silver, and bronze medals in national university sports competitions, and 138 gold, silver, and bronze medals in provincial competitions. |
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the school will strive to build itself into a high-level teaching and research-oriented school on the top of China's agricultural universities with certain influence and strong comprehensive strength both inside and outside the province, taking the idea of stable scale, connotation development, key breakthroughs and distinctive features as its development. |

School of Sports has more than 70,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor sports venues like standard plastic track and field courts, tennis courts and comprehensive gymnasiums. It also has multiple modern laboratories and workshops, including laboratory of human body science in sports laboratories. SS has more than 14 million Yuan of teaching instruments and equipment to fully meet the needs of teaching and scientific research. |

Over the past three years, SS has undertaken 3 national social science fund research projects, 15 provincial research projects and 37 university projects, published 28 monographs and textbooks, 256 papers. |
Social Services |
SS actively adapts to the needs of social development and actively carries out the “Red Dream Journey for the Youth” summer social practice for college students, leveraging the distinctive features and professional advantages of SS. A special social practice team has been formed to focus on caring for the “left-behind” children, promoting traditional sports culture, creating a national fitness atmosphere, contributing to the construction of a strong sports nation, and conducting social surveys. |
